Letter to Y, Of S.W. Hawking's THE CHRONOLOGY PROTECTION CONJECTURE 2018

06/08/2018 23:42

Dear Y,

ご多忙の中、メールをありがとうございます。

私も秋に向けて少しづつ勉強をしています。

なんでもそうでしょうが、やればやるほどわからないことが増えてきます。

私の本題とも関連しますので、時間のことに関連して、

この春に亡くなられたホーキング博士の、時間順序保護仮説という、1991年の学術講演を今読んでいます。

NTT出版で、英文も全文載っています。

THE CHRONOLOGY PROTECTION CONJECTURE が原題です。

Chronologyということばは、私は年代順というような意味でこれまで理解していましたが、

時間の歴史的な順序は確かに、逆転はしませんので、このことばが適切なのですね。

時間順序を私は単純に Time Order などと訳していましたが、これではどのような順序も許容してしまうことになります。

Shorter Oxford を見ると、この語の初出は1593年で、The science of computing time or periods of time,

Cordially,

Bridge across mathematics and physics / Revised

TODA Yukinobu. Several problems on derived category of coherent sheaf.  Tokyo, 2016

TODA Yukinobu's  Several problems on derived category of coherent sheaf has built across mathematics and physics. For my part, further more, physics and language seem to be expected to build over from the book.

Chapter 5. Page 116. Conjecture 5.16 shows us the connection between symplectic geometry and algebraic geometry.

I ever wrote several notes on language related with string theory.  Now TODA's book newly lights up the relation between physics and language. This relation is really fantastic for me from now on.

Prague in 1920s

Prague in 1920s

From Print 2012, Chapter 18

Non-symmetry. It was the very theme that I repeatedly talked on with C. Prague in 1920s. Karcevskij's paper "Du dualisme asymetrique du signe linguistique" that appeared in the magazine TCLP.  Absolutely contradicted coexistence between flexibility and solidity, which language keeps on maintaining, by which language continues existing as language.  Still now there will exist the everlasting dual contradiction in language. Why can
language stay in such solid and such flexible condition like that. Karcevskij proposed the duality that is seemed to be almost absolute contradiction.
Sergej Karcevskij's best of papers, for whom C called as the only genius in his last years' book Janua Linguisticae reserata 1994.

In this Tale, Print 2012, C is CHINO Eiichi who was the very teacher in my life, taught me almost all the heritage of modern linguistics. I first met him in 1969 at university's his Russian class as a student knowing nothing on language study.

The LCP showed us the eternal flexibility of language, which has overcame the vast trial approach to language and its bases and language universals.  The LCP had never persisted one theory or the main stream theories at that time.  I have inherited this noble spirit on my study.

The Days of Decipherment

 The Days of Decipherment

TANAKA Akio

On 20 July 2016 I went Tokyo National Museum, Ueno Park, Tokyo to see the exhibition A JOURNEY TO THE IMMORTALS: TREASURES OF ANCIENT GREECE, where I saw the linear A and B. It reminds me the youth days, so to say, the days of decipherment.

1960s -1970s is the age of decipherment in a sense. I was age 20 in 1967 and was learning language and literature at university. In 1958 John Chadwick's THE DECIPHERMENT OF LINEAR B was published from Cambridge University Press. At the preface of the book he wrote that the decipherment of linear B was told  at Documents in Mycenaean Greek (Cambridge University Press, 1956) and Michael Ventris that deciphered the Linear B.

In the same age in Japan, Xixia wenzi (Xixia characters) in China was deciphered by NISHIDA Tatsuo (1928-2012) who wrote the analysis and grammar of Xixia characters through the paper Seikamoji no bunseki narabini Seikago bunpou no kenkyuu in 1962.

In almost the same time, Inca characters were studying to decipher. I frequently heard that Russian team developed largely.

In early 1970s I frequently went to Kanda, Tokyo where old bookshops were selling vast Oriental books at the Hakusan street and Yasukuni Street. I bought Chinese classics, especially linguistic classics written in the Qing dynasty and I read them almost every day containing the comparison with the western linguistic results. The Qing dynasty's heritage were DUAN Yucai, WANG Niansun, WANG Yingzhi and WANG Guowei and so forth. DUAN Yucai's Showenjezi zhu and WANG Guowei's Guantang jilin  were the most important for me.

In France, 1960s was the days of Bourbaki that was one of the decipher of geometry by algebra, at least I thought so at that time. I sought and bought several Bourbaki's books at the old bookshops in Kanda, Tokyo, which is the largest old bookshop streets in Japan. But from my ability to mathematics Bourbaki was too much difficult to read on. From the days the long and winding road began to mathematics and its applicable study for language universals.

At the exhibition of ancient Greece I confirmed in particular that the stability of language was  kept by letters and characters from the Linear A and Linear B.

Exhibition Catalogue numbers are the next.

The numbers 39 and 40 are Linear A. 41 and 77 are Linear B.

39. Clay juglet c. 1800 B.C. ~ c. 1700 B.C.

40. Clay bar c. 1700 B.C. ~ c. 1650 B.C.

41. Clay tablet c. 1375 B.C. ~ c. 1350 B.C.

77. Linear B bar and tablet c. the 13th century B.C.

For my part the stability  has been one of the biggest themes on language phenomena since I was taught from CHINO Eiichi through the results of the Linguistic Circle of Prague, especially of Sergej Karcevskij.

Letter to RM From Ideogram to Quantum-Nerve Theory QNT. 23 November 2019

Letter to RM From Ideogram to Quantum-Nerve Theory QNT. 23 November 2019

To RM,

Ideogram Paper 1-16 is a basis of my study since 1960s in the age 20s.

In those days, I had been roaming the streets at old bookshops of Kanda in the central Tokyo mainly searching books of Qing dynasty’s strict written language’s analysis for deciphering Yin’s logograph 2500 years ago, which were at first deciphered by WANG Guowei who was the pilot of my study.

After roaming days in 2000s, I started writing several papers hinted by WANG Guowei and the like. One of them written in 2004.
This is a new one step for my study to the later QNT.

May your days be safe and happy.

Property of Quantum
TANAKA Akio

<1>
1
A thing which is expressed by utterance corresponds to a Chinese character onto which thing is projected. Therefore in Chinese language oral language is close to written language.
2
Chinese character consists of a quantum or more than two quanta.
3
A quantum consists of indicators.
4
An indicator has a signification and a period.
5
A signification is an element.
6
A period is an element. A signification is a simplified easy writable shape projected from an enduring thing in the real world.
7
A period is an evidently partitioned artificial time in which thing in the real world exists imaginarily. Therefore circumstance of a thing in the real world can surmise from a periodical element.
8
When more over two indicators gather in a quantum, newly constructed period is generally shortened than each peculiarly possessing periods. Since indicators are restricted one another by their own possessing period. But occasionally composite period is longer than each inner indicator.
9
Character /ri/ sun is made by one indicator. The indicator has one significant element and one periodical element. A signification is “sun”. A period is “eternal”.Character /yue/ moon is made by one indicator. The indicator has one significant element and one periodical element. A signification is “moon”. A period is “eternal”.When /ri/ and /yue/ gather in a quantum, new character is made by the two indicators /ri/ and /yue/. This new character is /ming/. It means light in English.Newly constructed period is shortened than each possessing period. The period is a light time and a light place in peculiar situation. For example, /Tian ming le./ means in English Dawn broke. This is a general instance.
10
Character /yu/ bring up is made by three indicators. According to /jia gu wen/ inscriptions on bones or tortoise shells, three indicators are below.First indicator is woman bending forward.Second indicator is bodily fluid at child birth.Third indicator is newly born child. The period being projected onto the character /yu/ is longer than three indicators.Newly made period of /yu/ is continuative period of three periods of indicators.Namely character /yu/ has a period of composite, which is a period of three continuative occurring situations. The situations are below.First is the preparation for birth, woman bending forward.Second is the state of what the waters broke from the mother’s body. Third is a baby coming to our world. Therefore the period of the newly constructed character /yu/ is rather long from the preparation of birth to the bringing up a child.
<2>
1
Each quantum has a periodical situation projected from the things of the real world.
2
When two quanta are continuously located from the shorter one to the longer another, two quanta link up tightly. This situation is called joining. Joining is defined.
3
Generally, the quanta projected from the things in the real world have longer periods, and quanta projected from the movements in the real world have shorter period because of the time currency in the real situations. Things are located eternally in the same place with no particular power, on the centrally movements are ceaselessly move and change in the real world.
4
For example, in Chinese language, /jiao/ teach and /shi/ room are joined well and become the word /jioashi/, meaning classroom in English. Word is defined. But /shi/ and /jiao/ are not joined. Two quanta are located separately and become the sentence  /Shi/ /jiao/,  meaning in the classroom I teach. Sentence is defined.
5
For example, in Chinese, /wo/ I and /ren/ human being have similar periods because of living things in the real world. So /Wo ren/ become one sentence, meaning I am a human being. When three quanta such as /wo/ /xue/ learn and /ren/ are located in this order, /wo/ and /xue/ are separated because a period of /wo/ is longer than a period of /xue/. Next, /xue/ and /ren/ are joined well because a period of /xue/ is shorter than /ren/. So /xue ren/ become one word, meaning learner. Therefore /wo xue ren/ means I am a learner. But occasionally /xue/ happens to be longer than /ren/ at periodical situation. In such case, /ren/ means a shorter concept of human being, human nature for instance. This concept human nature is an abstraction, not real thing in the world. Abstractive concept has a shorter period than the real thing because of the functionality of quantum. The definition of function is defined below.    In this case /wo xue ren/ means I learn human nature.
<3>
1
Indicators of quanta have significations which are projected from the things in the real world. But this projection occasionally does not function in the process of the language history. The main cause of this phenomenon is no or few use of the things in the transition of life style of our human beings. In such cases indicators have no significations. And the periods in the indications disappear simultaneously, leaving the shapes and the sounds in the quanta. For example, Chinese character /bu/ originally means the partial name of the flower, that is to say, the indicator of quantum was projected from the flowers in the real world. But this significant indicator disappears early in the Chinese language history. Simultaneously the periodical indicator, that is almost equal to the flowering time, disappears in the language world. The shape and the sound in the quantum remain afterwards. And the sound functions later, indicating the sound-alike-quantum which has a negative meaning in the language world. Here the functional word /bu/, in English means not, comes into existence.
2
Functional word is not projected from the real world. For this reason functional words generally have a minute period in oneself
3
When functional word is located in front of the word which have a longer period, two words can connect well and make a one-word-alike phrase. For example, Chinese character /bu/ not and /du/ read make a phrase, meaning not read in English. On the contrary /du/ and /bu/ cannot connect well. So these two words make a sentence, meaning read or do not read in English.
4
Functional words generally possess composite meaning. For example Chinese character /bu/ means negation, in English means not. This concept of negation is followed after the concept of existence. In other words, /bu/ means the situation that after a minute period existence changes non-existence. Here Chinese character /ye/ means the concept of conclusion. This is also a functional word. The function of this character is the continuance of the situation, in which after a minute period the things remains the same place.
5
Chinese sentence /Wo shi ren ye./ means I am a human being. in English. Connecting and not-connecting of this sentence is below./Wo  shi  ren   ye./ Here /shi/ and /ye/ are functional word, possessing a minute periods./Shi/ is clearing the thesis on the declaration./Ye/ is the conclusion./Wo/ is I in English, longer period./Ren/ is Human being in English, also longer period. The period of /wo/ is longer than /shi/.The period of /shi/ is shorter than /ren/.The period of /ren/ is longer than /ye/.

From Distance to Pseudo-Kobayashi Distance

From Distance to Pseudo-Kobayashi Distance

TANAKA Akio

In 2004 I wrote the paper titled "Distance Theory"
The paper handled the structure of sentence, using the classic written Chinese for its simplicity of form that has not any transformation at word.
In Chinese, word namely character does not change anymore. Nevertheless grammatical functions strictly exist by its sequence of characters.

I had been very interesting the style of language that never appears in the European languages. But the study for it was too hard to pursue at my age 20s and 30s by my talent.

In 1979, I met CHINO Eiichi again at the university to where I returned from the work of teaching at senior high school. He taught me the importance of the Linguistic Circle of Prague.

We talked with many problems of language study at the campus or coffee shop near the station we usually got on and off . The shop were old and steps were always sounded rattling. The light of the shop were dim and yellowed with age.

We were both young, he was late 40s and I was early 30s.
Before these days we already met at the Russian class. The time was 1969, he taught us the language in the tiny classroom. Then he was just after, coming back from the long study at Czechoslovakia.

From 1979, he had actively introduced the Linguistic Circle of Prague while studying his own subjects. It was a really happy time for me. He told us at the class of linguistics and told me more frankly at the coffee shop on the various themes related with language .Prague was always at the center in the conversation.

I gradually went on to the narrow theme concerned with language universals.  What decisively entered to my mind was Sergej Karcevskij. If there only be Saussure, I could not determined so smoothly.

In my age 30s, 1980s, I had been wandering to and fro at Kanda, the centric part Tokyo, where I encountered many Chinese classics at the Chinese book shops. From my familiar language I wanted to research the study on the subject. But  there were no clear road to going ahead.  I had hoped concise and clear description on the theme, if I wish, using mathematics.

In 1960s, in my front, Bourbaki emerged the huge target that was built by the vast from-set-theory-to-topology. At the time's going my level was very low and primitive. I was never able to use such a difficult mathematics.

I spent the lag time in 1970s. reading Chinese classic books at random. The main was Qing dynasty's Xiaoxue (Small study) on Chinese characters classical research.

In 1990s, the target of language study decided to language universals, being led by Sergej Karcevskij for that almost all the information were given from CHINO.

At that time mathematics were going on and on to the wide and deep fields covering the humanities, e.g. category, sheaf and discreteness.

In March 2003 I stayed some days at Hakuba, Nagano, where I wrote the proto-paper on language model for the first time, titled " On Time Property Inherent in Characters". It treated the unchanging language, Chinese, as the typical one for its simplicity and familiarity in my life.

The paper's main theme was time that is hypothetically  inherent in each character in Chinese. The basis of the theory was in the study of WANG Guowei's ancient Chinese inscriptions on bone and tortoiseshell.

In order to possess grammar in unchanging language, there should be the another functions to express grammar or near -grammar. I selected inherent time in each character supposedly.

In August 2003, I also stayed at Hakuba, where I wrote "Quantum Theory for Language". It was the enlarged paper of the March's one. There intuitive long-short times were supposed. There was any description of mathematics. But important points were presented, I thought. The problem was how precisely go the theory using mathematics.

In 2004 I wrote " Distance Theory" from the viewpoint of clear concept using distance instead of time that was not able to mention enough descriptively.

But the theory was also intuitive and philosophical one. I never satisfied the expression. The theory's essentials were distance and connection, that is to say, words connect according by the distance inherent in words.

Succeeding this theory, I tried to write many fields on language making the efficient models for natural language, namely language universals in my mind, being led by Karcevskij.

Hereafter the main target was the mathematical description for many varieties that were almost intuitively remained or noted.

Now I use algebraic or arithmetic one for their strict simplicity and beauty. Recently I wrote in distance from pseudo-Kobayashi-distance that was very fantastic and widely perspective views for me. The paper's title is 'Connection of Words", that is my long winding road from encountering CHINO and Linguistic Circle of Prague.

Grateful thanks to CHINO Eiichi. You wrote "Linguistics of the 21th Century" in  1998,  four years before your death, that there are studies undergoing to be able to understand meaning by combination of several elements. Still now I am your student and probably forever.
